Natural Skin Care You Need this Fall and Winter

Let’s face it, fall and winter can highlight some of our least favorite aspects of our skin. A lot of times it’s just that we’re not taking the time to truly care for our skin or we’re using products with chemicals that may be making matters worse. Check out my favorite skin care products which offer natural support all year long.

Orange Blossom Facial Wash is a soap-free facial wash cleanses the skin without stripping natural oils. It contains MSM for softening and Lavender essential oil to soothe skin. I love, love this products and I even stretch it by adding a couple of capfuls to a foaming hand soap pump bottle and filling with water. Works like a charm!

Mint Satin Facial Scrub™ is a water-based exfoliant. It contains jojoba oil, mango butter, MSM, aloe, and Peppermint essential oil to minimize the appearance of pores and invigorate dull skin. I love to use this about every three or four days.

ART® Skin Care System safely and effectively cleanses, tones, and moisturizes your face to bring out your natural and inherent beauty. Infused with skin-loving essential oils, your face will look and feel amazing with a renewed, radiant look.

Frankincense Essential Oil benefits include maintaining radiant skin. You just have to try it to see for yourself.

Geranium Essential Oil helps to maintain the appearance healthy skin and is an awesome addition to any skin care regimen.

10 Natural Ways to Keep Kids Healthy

Missed Days for Sniffling Kids

Winter and all the gunk that comes with it have definitely arrived! There are mornings when I feel like a terrible mother as I try to gauge how well my kids are. It sounds something like this: “how do you really feel?” Of course, there are times when you know for sure that one of your kids needs to stay home, but there are those other times when you go ahead and stay home only to learn that your child is perfectly fine! As a full-time working mom, I struggle with this because each day off means one less for something more serious or important down the road.

Boost wellness in your children

Reduce Missed Days

I am a realist and I know that my kids will most likely still come down with the crud here or there, but I feel confident that our healthy lifestyle will help support their immune systems as we navigate the season! Here are NINE practical and powerful ways to keep kids healthy and cut down on those missed days:

1. Lots of GOOD Hugs!

Studies show that hugging has amazing health benefits for everyone! Your kiddos need between four and eight good hugs every day (at least 10 seconds each). BONUS!! These hugs are good for you too! Hugging increases oxytocin production and according to Dr. Mercola, “The neuropeptide oxytocin, released by your pituitary gland, is a naturally occurring hormone in your body with incredibly powerful, health-giving properties.”

2. Serve Balanced Meals

As a working family, we sometimes find it difficult to serve a brand new healthy meal each evening. We try to handle this by planning 3 or 4 meals per week and eating leftovers. Consider reheating food in the oven rather than the microwave to keep more nutrients intact.

4. Limit sugar

Too much sugar depresses the immune system and in our society it is so easy to overload on it. I gave up sugar over the summer and since that time I have been alarmed to find that sugar is added to nearly everything we eat.

6. Consider Vitamins and Probiotics

I try very hard to get a healthy balance of foods into my daughters, but I know they aren’t getting everything they need each day. I don’t want them to take too many vitamins or take vitamins with added chemicals. For this reason, we use Young Living’s Life 5 probiotics (I just sprinkle part of a capsule in yogurt or applesauce) and I’m adding Young Living MightyVites and/or MightyZymes to their days.

5. Encourage Exercise

There is quite a bit of evidence that regular exercise can boost the immune system. According to an article from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, “Just 20 – 30 minutes of brisk walking five days weekly is enough to boost the immune system.”

6. Essential Oil Massage

There are many ways that massage can support the immune system such as stimulating the lymphatic system and increasing feelings of relaxation. Read more about in this’s article: Supporting The Immune System With Massage. Add some Young Living essential oils such as ImmuPower or Lavender with a carrier oil to the massage for extra relaxation.

8. Get Them to Bed

This time of year with holiday concerts and so many activities, bedtime can get out of control. I can almost always tell when we have let bedtime slack in our home. I think WebMD says it best: “Sleep loss not only plays a role in whether we come down with a cold or flu. It also influences how we fight illnesses once we come down with them.” I also diffuse YL essential oils in my girls’ rooms each night to encourage them to settle down and relax for bedtime.

9. Promote Positivity & Raise Biofrequency

The healthy human body operates at a certain frequency and when this frequency drops, we are less likely to be able to fight off illness. Amazingly, we can make simple adjustments in our life to increase and stabilize our frequency. One of these is to encourage feelings of happiness and discourage negative feelings like anger and resentment. As parents, we must model this to our kiddos. Did you know that Young Living’s pure essential oils have their own frequencies? It’s pretty awesome to think that so many things around us can either raise or decrease our own frequency. If this topic interests you, I highly suggest following the work of Dr. Bruce Lipton and Dr. Deepak Chopra as they both subscribe to the powerful connection between our minds and bodies.

10. Wash Hands

It’s a no brainer, but I am still surprised how underutilized this method is. Make hand washing a priority and teach your kids why it is important. Remind them to wash their hands after they have touched handles, keyboards, mice and other commonly touched items at school or daycare. Encourage 30 seconds of washing with singing or a game like “how many suds can you make?” I always remind my daughters to wash their hands the minute we walk in the house too. In regard to hand washing, the World Health Organization states, “It is a simple, low-cost action to prevent the spread of many of the microbes that cause health care-associated infections (HAI).” Remember when choosing soaps to avoid super strong soaps that contain strong chemicals. Regular soap is best so we don’t contribute to the growth of resistant strains of bugs.

Until next time, stay happy & healthy!
